About the Role

Packsize is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join the R&D Hardware Team in Salt Lake City. We are looking for someone who has an interest in mechatronics and industrial machine automation. You will be primarily responsible for sustaining the electrical system(s) for highly automated industrial machines. You will also be doing small electrical design projects and providing input on the mechanical design and PLCs. You will be collaborating with other engineers, product managers, product quality etc….. in creating, building and sustaining reliable, on-demand packaging systems. We want you to come in and ask well thought out questions, carry out solid fundamental engineering, do independent research and collaborate effectively with your peers. We have many R&D and product sustaining projects going on and look forward to new ideas and diverse, creative thinking to help solve difficult problems.

Education, Experience and Skills Desired

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience

  • Low voltage DC and high voltage AC experience and qualifications

  • Developing electrical schematics

  • Understanding of machine automation, industrial electrical wiring and associated safety protocols

  • Experience with Eplan

  • Ability to solder and wire up test systems

  • Knowledge of PLC’s and industrial automation technologies

  • Programming in C/C++, Python, Visual Studio etc...

  • Promoting industry best practice

  • Ensure conformance to applicable equipment specifications

  • Selecting sensors related to machine automation and data acquisition

  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating in team environments while maintaining individual duties effectively

  • Ability to prototype and 3D print simple designs and assemble systems to test automation strategies

  • Demonstrates lean and design thinking disciplines and mindsets

  • Shows curiosity and likes to tinker

  • Troubleshooting and finding root cause of complex electrical problems

What You’ll Do:

  • Support and troubleshoot existing electrical cabinet/panel designs

  • Update or modify electrical schematics and wiring diagrams

  • Collaborate on the design and layout of new cabinet/panel designs

  • Write specification documents for electrical components

  • Identify and approve alternative electrical components

  • Assist other engineers in building and testing complex automated machines and subsystems

  • Build and test electro-mechanical systems

  • Write code appropriate for a specific test

  • Provide input during design reviews

  • Lead troubleshooting and debugging efforts

  • Assist in writing test plans

  • Engage in continuous improvement activities

  • Work with the team to organize, clean and maintain R&D test area (5S)

  • Maintain prototyping hardware and test equipment

  • Use typical R&D tools and other shop equipment

  • Document work in Atlassian Confluence

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Up to 15% travel as needed

  • Ability to do the physical work necessary to fabricate prototypes (using machine shop tools, turning wrenches etc…)

What We Offer

The salary range for this role is 70k to $100k however,Packsize considers several factors when determining compensation when extending a job offer, including but not limited to, the role being offered, the associated responsibilities, the candidate's prior work experience, education/training, and any special skills.
